  • Who are the Locals?

They act as your local friend in a city. Our Locals love meeting new people, sharing their city, and can introduce you to their favourite places and people. All of our Locals have been met in person by the My Plus One team, and many are our personal friends. They are mostly young, work in the creative industries, and speak a minimum of two languages.

  • What is My Plus One?

My Plus One allows you to meet up with vetted locals in different cities. My Plus One also recommends stylish and affordable places to stay, including hotels and apartments. We’re making travel more beneficial, affordable and fun!

  • Is My Plus One safe?

All our Locals have been met in person by the My Plus One team. Many of the Locals are our personal friends or people we know. My Plus One does not conduct police checks on our Locals.

  • What are the benefits of meeting a local?

Meeting a local is a great way to get up-to-date, insider knowledge about a city, and to have a more beneficial, authentic travel experience. You save time and money only seeing places that interest you and not falling in to the usual tourist traps. You can read a range of reviews from past guests on our testimonials page.

  • What fees does My Plus One charge?

My Plus One charges no fee to the traveller. The traveller pays the fee for their booking directly to their Plus One. My Plus One charges each Local a one-off registration fee of £20 / €30. This fee is only paid when their application has been accepted.

  • Can my Plus One provide me with a more standard sightseeing tour?

My Plus One is about joining a Local in order to experience what they would normally do in the city. However, some of the Locals can offer more informative tours. Alternatively, you can contact us and we’ll let you know which Locals offer this.

  • Can the Locals accept payment by debit or credit card?

No. The Locals can only be paid in money by bank transfer, PayPal, or cash in hand.

  • What if I have an accident?

We recommend getting traveller’s insurance for your trip. Traveller’s insurance is an affordable option that can protect you in case of an injury or emergency during your trip. Some policies even cover lost baggage and travel delays. Check with your local insurance provider for details on your options.
